Watchtower Investigated UK

The WT for this period seems particularly ‘feisty’, with the cover headline ‘Should you trust religion’? The picture is of some kind of probably health and wealth or word of faith preacher sporting a cross on the lapel of course. ‘Some people find it hard to trust religion because of past disappointments’ it says! Learn more about a religion that is worthy of your confidence!! Man alive that’s fresh coming from a religion that specializes in false promises and keeps itself going on what MIGHT happen just around the corner. The tactic here is to rely on the situation that the readers don’t actually know much about JWs or the WT. The ‘sell’ is easy to contrast the pristine Watchtower with the all to obvious imperfections of other Churches.
The Truth book from the 1960s had a great quote on p8 all about examining your own religion and it equally…

O Holy Spirit

O Holy Spirit, thou art willing to help my infirmities, to show me my need, to supply words, to pray within me, to strengthen me that I faint not in supplication…

The disbelief of Christ’s deity was the last of the JW theology to lose its hold on me. However, as I began (and as I continue to study) God’s Word —  with the mindset of completely ridding myself of any preconceived notions — just taking it as it is laying itself out before me — I began to see a connection between the God of the Old Testament and the Christ of the New Testament.   The words Jesus used to describe himself are clearly the words of God’s in the Old Testament.  The God the prophets spoke of were fulfilled in the person of Christ.  The “I AM” statements of YHWH–are the same I AM statements of  Jesus.  The God the prophets spoke of have clearly been fulfilled in the coming of the Messiah. *

If there is something good to be said about the religion of the JW it is the concept of the Bible being the inspired word of God.  I say concept because, while they submit themselves to the scriptures as far as their theology is concerned they are far from being actually being “enslaved” to them.  They believe only what they can explain.  If they can’t explain it, (to borrow a bit from a sermon of Paul Washer) than the scriptures must not be saying it and hence they have to throw out or twist or change some of the text or scriptures to fit their reasoning. (An examination of the WTBTS’s  own Kingdom Interlinear will make this quite apparent to any skeptic.)   The scriptures say that there is one God, but scripture also attributes deity to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  If you are to submit yourself as a slave to the Word – than you must accept this as truth.

*I will continue with part 2 with a list of some key scriptures to back my above statement.  In the meanwhile, I challenge you to pull out your New World Translation, the WTBTS Kingdom Interlinear (see my links if you don’t have one for the PDF version), maybe if you dare, several other bible translations and an interlinear from another publisher (easily found online) and answer the following two questions for me:

Who is the Alpha and Omega spoken of in Revelation 1? and
When did Jehovah die?

Our words can help or hurt a fact which I need to convict myself of daily.

coffee and cookies“I will speak ill of no man, but all the good I know of everyone.”  Benjamin Franklin

I write a great deal on the things we say.  The Bible is full of commands and warnings about what you say!  It says that literal “life and death” is found in the tongue.  You will have what you say!  It likens the tongue to being capable of producing literal life, death, a raging fire, kindness, healing, breaking someone down, building someone up,  peace, extending the years of your life, and this is only naming a few!

Have you ever heard someone say, “Oh, there is a stomach bug going around and I ALWAYS get stomach viruses!”  Sure enough this person always seems to have trouble with their stomach!  I have heard others say, “Well, heart trouble runs in my family.  My grandparents, aunts, uncles, and parents all had it, so…

An inspirational testimony about breaking free . . .

Watchtower Investigated UK

What led Peter Price to leave Jehovah’s Witnesses after 30 years of devoted service to God and the organisation. Part two of a remarkable interview with Doug Harris on Genesis TV. Peter despaired of preaching what he did not believe and left the Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was shunned by his family and spent 10 further years in a God-less wilderness. Finally he came to know the Lord Jesus and became a Christian church pastor.

Today I heard a wonderful and powerful sermon at church. It touched my heart so much that at the end I felt the tears rolling down my face and I didn’t care who saw. I grieved for my past unbelief and for my family members who are still stuck in a lie.

Paul’s letter to the Colossians warned his brothers of a different gospel,  the gnostic philosophy that was  infiltrating their congregation. “Gnostic” comes from the Greek word gnosis, which means having  secret knowledge. A religious philosophy whereby one is taught that salvation could only be achieved through obtaining that secret knowledge. Some taught that this knowledge in addition to works  brought you closer to salvation.

This lie is the same lie of the serpent in the Garden of Eden. It is a lie still being taught today by those who seek to diminish the purpose and the very nature and deity of Christ.

Truth is found in Christ. Through in Him all things were brought into being. He who conquered death.   It is through His blood that we are reconciled. Our intercessor. In Him the fullness and deity dwell. What a wonderful gift we have been given. Something to remember in this coming season.

Colossians 1: 23:  … continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven…. – ESV

In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
‘Til on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live
